College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (Autonomous), Bengaluru Urban was established in 1964. The institution was first established as “Chitrakala Vidyalaya” by founder secretary late M.S.Nanjunda Rao.

It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 26th April 1990 under Act, 1956.

It is recognized by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Bengaluru on 10th August 1990 to offers various Diploma courses. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.52 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 23rd January 2017.

The institution was upgraded into a Degree college in 1983, affiliated to the Bangalore University, Bengaluru. The post-graduate/post diploma facility was extended in 1990. It has obtained status as an autonomous institution by the UGC from the academic year 2006.

The college offers the Bachelor of Visual Arts (B.V.A) and Master of Visual Art (M.V.A). The College houses have five departments, Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art, Art History and Applied Art.

Students have to undertake a regular course of first and second language English and Kannada (or Hindi or French or Additional English) as per the University requirement. The language of instruction is English. This autonomous institution will function under the guidance of the Governing Body, Academic Council and Board of Studies.
